Star Ascending,  Upholstery vinyl

This dress sculpture was juried in the 'Ode to Hollywood' art show at the Jeanie Madsen Gallery in Santa Monica, CA.  I won third place, the show will be up through September.

Here is the back view, photo taken outside my studio door before I delivered the sculpture to the gallery.
I have five other dresses, three of which I have shown before but now I want to re-do some of them and expand on the concepts by building platforms and having paintings as backdrops.  Below is another dress I had in 'Fashionistas'.

I have been very busy working on another dress sculpture, it is my 6th one in 6 years.  They are very labor intensive and costly to make so I average about one a year.  I am planning on making several more then work on getting a show.  They are all nature themes, the one I just completed is the star dress, titled, 'Star Ascending'.

North County Creek

On Christmas day in 2010 I took some photos while hiking at a state park in North County by Elfin Forest.  I painted the first one about a year ago, I am just now getting around to work on a couple more canvases.  I was hiking in the late afternoon and the light on the rocks and water was beautiful.

New work for 2012

Central California
After a six month hiatus from painting because of work schedule and moving my art studio I have returned to my art with a few quick small landscape sketches.  They are all around 9x12 inches and most of them are on canvas boards.

lanscsape paintings

I am working on a series of landscape paintings from photos of central California.  I use the photos as reference for color, subject matter and atmospheric effects.  I don't copy the image directly, I take a tree here, road there and sky and coloring from another photograph.  I compose the picture directly on the canvas, sometimes re-positioning elements several times before I am satisfied with the outcome.
I paint with oil, mainly on canvas, sometimes on paper and wood.
